In August, Starr joined the Vater Percussion family. “Chad Brandolini (Director Of Artist Relations) & Vater have been great to me & I’m very proud to join their roster with so many legendary drummers. The bottom line is they have the best wood out there. It’s indestructible. And I destroy a lot of gear.”
MATT STARR ON TOUR WITH ACE FREHLEY
The summer of 2012 has been a busy one for drummer/singer & producer Matt Starr. In June, Matt was announced as the new drummer for KISS guitarist Ace Frehley. In addition to playing drums with the legendary axe man, Matt’s duties include singing the vocal parts of KISS frontman Paul Stanley. Starr sings lead on KISS classics “Love Gun”, “I Want You” & “Shout It Out Loud”. Matt says, “Paul is an amazing singer & I take singing his parts very seriously. It’s important for me to really kick ass for all the KISS fans.” The band spent the summer performing throughout the U.S. and is planning to hit the studio this fall and start work on Ace's next studio album.
The first show at New York City’s Best Buy Theatre was attended by David Letterman Band drummer Anton Fig. Anton has played on all of Frehley’s solo releases. “We opened with ‘Rip It Out’, which is the first track on Ace’s 1978 solo LP.” Matt recalls, “It has these 4 killer drum breaks in the middle that were played by Anton. So my first show with Ace, not only do I have my family and all the New York City Ace fans, but I also have Anton standing on the side of the stage watching. I loved it!”

Slash wrote on Twitter : " Had a really fun , live session with @Ace_Frehley last night jamming on a #ThinLizzy tune for his new covers album . Good times ! "
Frehley told Billboard.com earlier in the year about his covers disc : "The album's going to be about my influences . I'm probably doing a ROLLING STONES song , a WHO song , possibly a LED ZEPPELIN song, maybe a BEATLES song. Stuff from bands that I grew up on and greatly influenced me . Those are the songs I'd redo, besides vintage KISS stuff and a FREHLEY'S COMET track."

ACE FREHLEY "SPACE INVADER" DEBUTS AT #9 ON BILLBOARD TOP 200 & SELLS OVER 19,000 COPIES IN FIRST WEEK
The new solo album by recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Ace Frehley debuted at #9 on the Billboard album chart this week, giving the founding KISS guitarist his highest charting solo album ever, out charting his 1978 release It’s also his first top 10 solo record.

KISS guitarist Ace Frehley will get back in the groove on his first solo album in half a decade this summer. Space Invader, due out June 24th. It's the first release under a record deal with eOne Music.
